MY TOILET OVERFLOWED! ?

Question

WELL IT HASNT OVER FLOWED YET. BUT THE WATER AND EVERYTHING ELSE IS ALREADY AT THE TOP OF THE BOWL.

I TRIED TO PLUNGE IT BUT IT ISNT WORKING!

THEN I OPENED THE TOP AND PUSHED THE SILVER LEVER DOWN. WHICH MADE IT WORSE. WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO!!!?!

What did you put down there to block it up?

If it was just a lot of toilet tissue, then just wait for it to break up and it will clear.

In addition to what is said above,  If you are in an appartment o second or higer,  the peole below may have clogged their line.  may want to use a plumbers snake.

It's definitely plugged. Shut off the water  and don't keep trying to flush it.  Use the plunger again and again, with plenty of force. There's probably a wad of paper in there stopping it up. Make sure if you have kids, that they didn't put something big in there that won't pass thru.

What you actually need is what plumbers call a closet auger.  You can probably rent one at any good rental station, or you can usually buy them for around $10, (and this sounds like possibly a sound investment for you), at Home Depot, good hardware stores or most any home improvement center in the country.  They are very simple and effective to use.   If you don't have a major clog somewhere down deep in the main drain line, this thing will clear the toilet in about 3 minutes.   The people at the store where you buy it will be able to show you how to use it.

Get a plunger for toilets, the one for sinks don't work good for toilets. If that doesn't work then you can rent or buy closet auger (toilet snake). That will clean out anything in the toilet itself. Now if the clog is deeper in the pipes then you can rent a snake at any equipment rental and clean out the main line. If you have sewage coming out of the tub then you definitely have a clog in the main line. But from what you have described it's in the toilet.
