Question:

MY craftsman 16" chainsaw wont start?

It was running fine and i turned it off one day and it hasnt started since. If i spray starter fluid in the carb it starts and runs for about a second and dies.

  1. clean muffler and take apart carb and clean and change spark plug


  2. There are 2 fuel lines going into the fuel tank. 1 is the pick up tube, the other is for excess fuel to return to the tank. Remove the screws in the top of saw and you will see the back of the primer bulb, the 2 clear fuel lines. This is most often the problem as the lines break down where they connect to brass fittings and where they enter the fuel tank. Because it will run when fuel is sprayed in the carb, it is a fuel problem. Do NOT spray starting fluid as if has no lubricant that is needed to keep the engine from burning up. This is why you run mixed gas and oil.
