Shes going to oaxaca from houston on monday, i wanted to know if anyone had any information on how to travel without a passport BUT with all sorts of other ID. im sure in this day and age of terrorists there would be no way that she could go to mexico. but i KNEW if there was a way to do it, my yahoo friends were the ONES TO ASK> thanks so much i really appreciate it. james

  1. Go to the nearest Federal Building in your city or state.  Beg.  Pay the extra fee.

    It can be done.

  2. If she is flying, she is in a hopeless situation.  She MUST have a psssport.  If she had JUST applied for a passport and not received it on time, she would be allowed to travel with proof of her application...but this is not the case.  She must report the lost passport, then even if she pays for an expedited passport to be sent to her , it could take 2 months.  I suppose she could try one of those "fast" passport services you can find on the web...expensive, but I have heard they can get one in a few days.  she is going to have to reschedule her flight.  An alternative, would be to take the bus across the border, maybe to Monterrey, then fly from there.  She could get a new passport from the embassy in Mexico City here much faster than in the states...to use when she returns.  That would take just a few days...would have to spend a day at the embassy, then they would send it to her in Oaxaca by messenger service.  Or, a family member could drive her to Monterrey, then she could fly from ther...don't need passports to enter by land.  See 1st website below for all passport info.  If she does decide to get her passport replaced at the embassy here in Mexico, she may want to stay at a delightful, inexpensive, very safe little B and B just one block from the American Embassy.  It is called Casa Gonzales.  I have had several friends stay there and they loved it. Owner speaks English too.  See 2nd website.  I really hope you can get this worked out  in a satisfactory way.

  3. She won't need a passport if she comes back in a car, i mean you need a passport only when traveling in a plane, you still  can use your birth certificate and an state id to reenter the U.S. until July 1st 2008.
