  1. I think when they chew on the bars of their cage, they want attention. When your hamster does that, Take he or she out to play. Also try getting some mineral chews for your hamster.                      :)     ~Lexi

  2. Let her chew on a chew toy.

  3. It's chewing on the bars because its teeth are constantly growing all its life and it needs to file them down so consider getting a chew toy.

Also it may be doing it because it wants attention and they tend to nibble on the cage bars if they are bored.

  4. well if u have a hamster ball let her go in it so she will have more room to run around.Hamsters dont like 2 be in there cage all the time.

  5. Hamsters teeth are constantly growing so they have a constant need to chew.  No matter how big the cage is, she is going to chew on it.  It is normal, and will not hurt her (unless she manages to get out).  However, she will chew on the cage less if you get her some toys to chew on and some treats.

You can also give your hamster empty paper towel or toilet paper rolls.  They will play with them and chew on them.

    I hope this helps!

  6. I feel your pain...it used to keep me up at night.  Do you have a wheel in the cage and edible items for her to chew?  If she's chewing plastic it can make her very sick, so watch for symptoms.  Try strictlypetsupplies.com to get some chewy goodness!

    Good luck!

  7. Does she have chew twigs, or some other toys to play with? The biting on the cage bars could stem from boredom or the need to chew.

  8. My hamster does this as well, i think they just do it because they like to chew on something.

If you want her to stop it try getting her a log or something to chew on that will keep her occupied for ages.  I've got some wood that is shaped like fruit and is supposed to taste like fruit to the hamster. Try getting something like that, most pet shops do them.

  9. Does she have a log or anything to gnaw on? She may need to file down her teeth on something hard. If she hasn't already got them, try hard food, hanging nut treats, hanging toys, and a wooden log.

    Hope this helps!

  10. They like to chew on the cage and it's not a bad thing.  No matter how big or how many toys you provide they like to gnaw on the cage.  I have a Syrian female hamster and she does this all night.  It's for her teeth I guess.  They like to chew on really hard stuff.  I just bought her some natural nibblers bark chew sticks and she loves them but still she chews the cage.

  11. You have to get her a chewing toy she's chewing on the cage because she needs to chew.

  12. Hamsters often gnaw on the cage bars. She gnaws on stuff so that her teeth don't grow long and cause problems.Hamster teeth keep growing throughout their lifetime and if they do not gnaw, long teeth can cause health problems to them.

Hamsters can also gnaw on cage bars if they are bored or of they don't have much tunnels or space in the cage to move around. It is their answer to whiling away boredom.

So you can check her cage to see if there is enough space and enough toys for her to play. I don't mean expensive toys from shops, things as simple as toilet roll tubes and toothpaste cartons with their flaps removed make interesting toys for your hamster.

Hard dog biscuits can also be given to your hamster for biting, it might take her mind off the cage bars.

One of my hamsters used to be a fan of this cage biting habit but after a few months of me ignoring his habit, he actually gave up on it and started with more interesting things like wood chew sticks. Maybe you might have to give your hamster too some time.

You can give your hamster the above options but if she is still adamant on biting her cage bars, leave her to her whims. A litle bit of chewing is not going to harm her, it will only do good for her teeth.

However if it borders on obssessive chewing, then you can try applying the stuff on cage bars that many pet shops sell to put off hammies from biting the bars.
