MY neighbor, who is 97 years old, pees in his driveway throughout the day....?

...he is a nice guy and I realize he cannot move very easily (he has very bad knees and walks with 2 canes), but he goes behind his car and pees several times throughout the day, and now the smell is disgusting! I don't want to hurt his feelings, but I need to do something. I was going to just clean and disinfect his driveway with bleach/water when he goes out for his daily drive, but I wonder if I should just ask him to stop. Any opinions or advice...as I said, he is a nice guy and old, and I don't want to hurt his feelings? Thanks.

  1. Well my former neighbour always peed in the driveway.. and he was a lot younger.. his wife didn't want him to mess up her ''toilet after she cleaned it.. so very early in the mornings or after sunset he would stand against a wall and ''water the roses'' his way.. I would leave him alone.. he is not exposing himself.. maybe he has some strange relative who also tells him.. I just cleaned the toilet... you can't use it.. This is not a joke.. this guy also had to sit on the settee and put a piece of newspaper underneath it and she put newspaper all along the hallway when he came on until he took off his outdoor shoes.. in my neighbours case it was his wife who drove him to peeing against the garden wall.. I didn't mind and I was 9 years old at the time.. I thought it funny.. but men get away with that kind of thing.. women don't and it's his backyard.if he peed against your garden gate then you would have a right to speak out... I would let him go.. also he may slowly start to get Dementia.. then it's really not his fault and even if you talk to him.. Dementia slowly destroys the brain cells.. happens often to old people.. the older people are the higher the risk of Alzheimers which is one kind of Dementia.. Ronald Reagan was an intelligent man.. later he even forgot the name of his wife Nancy..and now Margaret Thatcher the former Prime Minister of Britain is suffering from Dementia at age 82.. she is getting more and more confused... if that is happening to him.. then most likely he will have to go into a home to be looked after.. if the condition gets worse.. it wouldn't be his fault and he would not do it to be offensive to anyone if he really should suffer from Dementia.. he simply mistakes the garden for the bathroom... should it be that he suffers from this condition.. then his relatives will get to know and have to decide what they do with him but then he cannot live alone any longer...xx I would not get involved.. he definitely doesn't do it to offend

  2. What bothers me more than his urinating in the driveway is that he goes for a daily drive. Do you mean he drives a car? Sure, you can do the bleach and water thing, but if he's so out of it he doesn't realize he shouldn't pee in his driveway, just how does he do behind the wheel of a car?

  3. Do the bleach & water cleaning. At 97, he's done well. Most of us would be envious of him. It can't last much longer.

  4. just clean it..........if he has any family have a quiet word, if hes doing that on his drive, goodness knows whats going on indoors! if he hasnt any family then try and contact social services he may need help but pride prevents the elderly from asking for help! good luck and be patient with him, bless his heart!!

  5. As long as he passes his drivers test every year he can drive. He is 97 and what he has been doing most likely he has been doing for a very long time. No one is going to change him. I suggest that when his car is not there to just go water that area with a hose and spray some Lysol around. Don't use bleach.

  6. Hey! Let him pee. It's a feat just to hit the  90s and the high 90s at that. As for backing his car into the driveway , park your car elsewhere. He needs all the help he can get.

  7. Nice guy, old guy...it's still inappropriate and like you said, disgusting.

His knees must not be that bad, otherwise he would not be walking in the driveway several times a day.

First I would talk to him and hopefully it will stop.

If he goes for a walk around his driveway, suggest he uses the bathroom before his walk.

If it doesn't.... he must have relatives... talk to them.

If that fails, call the Health Department and ask for advise.

    Good Luck.

  8. It's probably just marking behavior.  I say you mark the area as yours next time he leaves.

  9. Hi

If the guy isn't coping, does he get help? Have family or a carer? If so you should talk to them. Clean the area with bleach and water yourself to deal with the immediate problem. If he is alone without any family or assistance then you need to consider getting in touch with those who can help him on a regular basis and possibly treat any medical problem that is causing it. Although their are many ethical issues over independance and not interfering in peoples lives sometimes it becomes obvious when a person can no longer cope on their own this may be a sign of that.

  10. this is a really screwed up situation maybe when he leaves put some kitty litter where he pees @ omg lmao

  11. Yuck this is not good.Find out when mr.stinky man is goin to the doctor and the minute he leaves for the appointment  hose and bleach down the area and next time his family comes tell them what he is doing. Its totally un sanitary
