  1. I have two long hair cats that have had ringworm since March. I have treated them with medication, shampoo, and even isolated them into their own dog cages. I have bleached, vacuumed, steam cleaned, washed...and everything else I can think of. I've spent over $1000 in vet bills and have the receipts to prove it. All this from adopting a kitten from the SPCA.

If your cats have ringworm do not take them anywhere near another cat. You can even spread it on your clothing to other animals. I have cultured my cats multiple times and was just told that even though one was negative the last time, they both are positive now. If you do your research you will find that even if your cats clear, it can live in the home for over a year and they can become reinfected again.

Six months later, I am at the end of my rope and am considering getting rid of the cats. I have had one for over ten years.

It is a nightmare and you should be aware of all the information out there if you may have it.

Ps: don't ever put bleach on a cat. Try pouring it on your hand and see how it feels on even a tiny cut. The bleach mixture is for cleaning anything you can with it in the home. It's the only thing that kills it on surfaces.

  2. when i foster kittens and cats they would get ringworm and the foster lady told me to take one part bleach to 10 parts water.. about once a week you take the solution put it on the ringwrom and its suppose to dry it out but you also have to get the ringworm cream and put it on 3-4 times a day

  3. Ringworm is just skin fungus.  It's curable and they can't tell if a cat has previously had it, nor would they probably care.  It is very contagious so try to quarantine the cat if you can, but I don't see how ringworm would affect future shows.

Edit:  Just to clarify, AFTER your cat has been fully treated IF ringworm is the problem, there will be no remaining evidence of the fungus (all the hair and skin will go back to normal) and there will be no reason for you not to show him at that point.

  4. Ringworm can be cured, it takes time and lots of work and patience.  You will need to take him to the vet.  Your vet will probably want to examine all of your cats.

No cat should go into a show hall with ringworm.  And, you should get the OK before taking any of cats into the show hall from your vet that they are clear and no longer contagious for ringworm.

A judge will be able to quickly spot active ringworm and will recognize from your cat's coat that he has recently had ringworm.  If the ringworm is active, you will be asked to remove yourself and your cats from the show hall.   Other breeders at the show will be quite unhappy.  So have patience and wait until you are certain that the time is right.

    Good Luck!

  5. I copied this from a show flyer. Most read about  the same.  If a cat is found to have fleas, ear mites, fungus, or appears ill, the exhibitor will be asked to leave, as well as anyone that is traveling with that exhibitor.

NON-VETTED SHOW! Any entry found with fleas, ear mites, fungus, or signs of illness will not be admitted. Any cat from a house or cattery where there has been feline distemper (panleukopenia) within 21 days prior to the opening date of the show is ineligible for entry, and, should entry have been made prior to the onset of any such condition, such entry is ineligible for admission into the show room. It is strongly advised that all cats or kittens entered in the show be inoculated by a licensed veterinarian against feline enteritis, feline rhinotracheitis, calici viruses and rabies. It is also strongly recommended that cats and kittens be tested and found negative for FeLV before entry. All claws of all cats must be clipped prior to benching. DECLAWED CATS ARE INELIGIBLE FOR ENTRY.
