MY surround sound system Pioneer DCS 3 doesnt work on the back speakers. How do i make them work?

The system works fine when a dvd is played, as it has a built in dvd player, i have tryed attaching the system to the tv using phono leads, and i have also attached it to my sky HD box using phono leads. Im running it through a samsung 40 lcd. All the tv settings seem to be correct. I have no idea why this isnt working, and have checked the manual and all over the net with no joy.

DVD has dolby digital 5.1 surround audio or DTS 5.1, not sure if audio through sky is 5.1
