Ma Filleule looks the one to beat in Taunton’s Totepool.com Mares´ Novices´ Hurdle (Listed Race)
It is indeed unsure how good Doyly Carte and Mischievous Milly will perform in Sunday’s Totepool.com Mares´ Novices´ Hurdle (Listed Race) at Taunton. Thus, the vote goes to Ma Filleule, who has already proved her mettle at this level.
The 4-year-old made her seasonal comeback at the end of October, when seizing an amazing win at Haydock. In the hands of David Bass, the Nicky Henderson-trained exhibited a splendid show, bagging the top prize by a dozen lengths.
She perpetuated her marvellous work, when moved up on the grading ladder. In her fresh Listed Race appearance at Newbury, she did nothing wrong under Barry Geraghty. The filly was no more than an unlucky loser, as she missed the gold medal only by a neck’s
distance in the Thoroughbred Breeders' Association Mares' Novices' Hurdle, held at the start of this month.
The 2-1 chance led approaching 2 out, and was travelling very nicely until the closing stages, when she lost her advantage because of staying at one pace. Owned by Simon Munir, the daughter of Turgeon knows how to cope up with pressure at this level. So,
it is not hard to expect her to show a winning performance against a line-up, which has a few weak runners.
The class-1 meeting has attracted a line-up of nine horses, who will be hunting a prize of £11,546. The going is heavy for the 2m1f contest, which will be kicked off at 14:20 GMT.
Doyly Carte won both hurdles in effortless style. So, it is hard to take her lightly. Donald McCain’s trainee has a great opportunity to complete a hat-trick, but her supporters don’t need to be complacent, because this is far stronger race than the last
twice.
Mischievous Milly won in an impressive fashion at Fakenham last time, and looks the one to consider. After taking the second prize twice, the 4-year-old raised her game, and clinched the victory by a massive margin of 21 lengths.
A three-way battle among Doyly Carte, Mischievous Milly and Ma Filleule is imminent. The preference goes to the third-named, who was impressive in this class last time. Good luck to all the contestants.
