Ma Lin, after winning the match, said, “In the first game I made too many mistakes with my first attack after the service. Later as the match progressed I was much better in that part of the game.”
In the first round, Lin won over Panagiotis Gionis from Greece in straight games with a score line of 1-11, 7-11, 8-11 and 8-11.

For a player like Ma Lin, it is not difficult to face a young player like Koki Niwa. He was prepared and more experienced than the young Japanese player.
Ma Lin expressed his views on the win and said, “Yes, that’s right, If I think back 12 years to 1999, I was in the situation then, I was a young player who had nothing to lose.”
Ma Lin was 19 years when the World Championships were held at Netherlands. It was in 1999, when he reached the Men's Singles final where he was defeated by Liu Guoliang, who is the head coach of the Chinese squad.
The 31-year-old Ma Lin is the senior member of the Chinese team, along with Wang Liqin. Ma Lin is the team leader of the Men's squad in the current championship.
This year, he is hoping for a Men's Doubles title as he is once again playing with Chen Qi. The duo won the title at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games and also the Doubles title at the 2007 Liebherr World Championships.
Head coach of Liu Guoliang said, “Yes, between 2004 and 2007 I always partnered Chen Qi, reflected. We built up a really good understanding.”
Ma Lin is in a good form to win the Doubles title once again, as both Chen Qi and Ma Lin have the ability to come out with a great game.
