Ma’a Nonu believes depleted Springboks strong enough to compete against All Blacks - Rugby
All Blacks star, Ma’a Nonu who has been preferred over Sonny Bill Williams for their opening match of the Tri-Nations Cup, believes that the limping Boks are strong enough to have a good game against New Zealand. . Nonu expressed these thoughts before the
match while talking to media on July 30.
Nonu discarded the speculations that the South African side will be easy to surpass in the absence of several key players. The Springboks are taking on the All Blacks in their second match of the Tri-Nations Cup 2011 on July 30, in Wellington.
The Springboks are being rated very low among the two other top sides of the world competing in the ongoing event including Wallabies and All Blacks. The Boks have been shaken by the large injuries before the opening of the event and were forced to leave
21 frontline players behind. The inexperienced side of the Springboks was dealt a humiliating defeat of 39-20 in their first match of the Tri-Nations Cup on July 23.
Talking to reporters, Nonu said that despite the heavy injuries, the Boks have got plenty of talent in their side and they could give a reasonably tough time to the All Blacks. He further said that wearing the national jersey always injects extra energy
into players, which could work like magic for the Boks.
Nonu supported his point while saying, “Everytime you put on a jersey whether it is Australia or South Africa that's the team. People may say they are resting a lot of players and they're all injured but for any country, they wouldn't do that to their country.
They'll put out their best side for that weekend.”
Talking about Sonny Bill Williams, who will start the game from the benches, said that, “His transition [from league to union] has been really fast and coming from the NRL he is a natural rugby union player. He is probably one of the few guys who has changed
over so quickly and been a sensation in rugby as has Brad Thorn as well.”
