Maarten Jamin retains 2012 International Yngling World Championship title at Sydney Harbour
Final day of 2012 International Yngling World Championship was full of thrill and excitement as the 45-member keelboat fleet was outstanding on the Sydney Harbour waters. The Dutch sailors stole the show with their impressive sailing skills. The defending
Champion, Maarten Jamin, had a scintillating run throughout the Championship and retained the title.
The Dutch Champion clinched the top spot with 40 points after 10 races, including a discard. The two-time World Champion had an amazing run from the beginning as he clinched two bullets to compile his 40 points.
In the overall standings, Jamin’s compatriot, Tom Otte, has occupied second podium place with 42 points, while Australia’s Michael Nash hit the third spot with one-point difference from Otte at 43 points.
The champ, Jamin and the third-placed Nash were 30 points each as they set sail on the final day but Jamin showed some excellent sailing techniques and finished ahead of Nash. While Nash’s 11th finish in the 10th race brought him down
to the third podium position.
The weather conditions throughout the regatta were ideal for a superb sail. However, during the Championship, there was fluctuation in the winds for a couple of days but that did not affect the proceedings at all and the fleet completed all scheduled races
on time.
