Maarten Lafeber shares the lead with two others at Andalucia Open, European Tour
The second round of the European Tour event of Andalucia Open concluded on Friday; the four day event being played at the par-70, Parador Malaga Golf course in Spain is really helping a lot of players built their reputation.
There are three players who share the lead at the top of the leader board after the conclusion of second round. Dane Jeppe Huldahl, Maarten Lafeber and Swedish Rikard Karlberg shot under-par rounds and have a two round score of eight-under par, 132 to lead
the tournament.
Huldahl, who’s making his third appearance in the European Tour, had a round of four-under par, 66 and shares the lead. There were six birdies and two bogeys marked on his card. The 29-year-old was putting smoothly on the tough greens and looked confident
with his iron shots in the windy conditions. The Dane golfer only has a single win on the European Tour which came two years back.
Jeppe was satisfied with his performance after two rounds and is looking forward to be on top of the leader board after the third day.
Lafeber is a seasoned player and enjoys competitive golf. He had a round of five-under par, 65 which were added to his first day’s score. Lafeber had an eagle, four birdies and had a drop shot on his card. His approach shot on the par-5, 14th
landed within a couple of feet from the hole and he went on to make an eagle.
As for Karlberg who got a sponsor’s exemption for this tournament, came up to the expectations of many. He had a steady round of three-under par, 67 and shares the lead. The Swede started his day with a birdie and added three more to his score. The par-4,
16th troubled him as his approach shot to the green was wayward. He had to be content with the only bogey on his card.
Three players share the fourth spot: Japanese Tetsuji Hiratsuka, Paul Lawrie of Scotland and Englishman Jamie Elson had a similar score of seven-under par and are just one shot behind the leaders. They all carded under par scores on the second day.
Major championship winner Paul Lawrie continued his spectacular play on the second day. He had a moderate round of three-under par, 67 and was looking confident putting on the greens. Lawrie only made a single bogey in two rounds and was playing like a champion.
He only has a deficit of one stroke over the leaders and is expected to improve further in the next two rounds. His last win came almost nine years back and he is looking in promising form.
There are around twenty players who are within four shots of the leaders.
A cutline score of one-under par was set by the tournament officials. Players like Colin Montgomerie, Jose Maria Olazabal, Darren Clarke and tournament organiser Miguel Angel Jimenez failed to match the cutline score.
The third day of the tournament will commence today and the top players on the score board will have to play well to maintain their momentum.
