The former Ajax star will not leave the Giallorossi this summer; remains coy over his Euro 2012 participation and confident of overcoming the injury problem
AS Roma goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Maarten-Stekelenburg-c22998 has rejected rumours linking him with a summer move away from Stadio Olimpico Rome.
Stekelenburg joined the capital side from Ajax in the summer transfer window for approximately six million Euros. Despite a decent season between the bars for Roma, the shot-stopper is believed to be unsettled at the club. It is
rumoured that the Dutch international is not enjoying his life in Rome, and wants a move away from the club.
However, Stekelenburg has rejected such talks, and has branded it as a lie. The 29-year-old revealed that he is happy in Rome, and has no reason to leave the club in the summer.
While talking to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 Channel, Stekelenburg remarked:
“I can’t understand where there rumours have come from, I’ve not even been here a year and already they are saying I want to go. Whoever says this is stupid. Whoever says I’m leaving is a fool, I would like to play all the games
here. However, the doctors are not sure yet if I can play at the European Championships.”
Stekelenburg has missed a handful of matches through injuries and suspension throughout the ongoing campaign. The Dutchman has been troubled by a persisting shoulder problem, which has kept him out of action for the last two games
for the Giallorossi. The goalkeeper is confident that he will recover from the injury before the start of the season, but remains coy over his participation in the Euro 2012.
“It’s hard, I’m doing the therapy, we’ll see what happens in the coming days. Things are better, it’s a problem I’ve carried since around December, I kept playing hoping that it might heal itself but now the pain is too strong
to allow me to play.”
The former Ajax star has played 28 games for the Giallorossi thus far this season. He is also the first-choice goalkeeper for Dutch national team, and his absence will be a huge blow for the country.
