Mac Mini vs MacBook?

my dad needs a new computer. we akready havve a monitor if we take the mac mini route. the choices are mac mini and the basic 2.1ghz macbook. He will only need basic computing and may like the portability to take to wifi hotspots (he won't be online enough to make it worth dumping $40 a month on internet). the thing is, he is on a budget, so the macbook might or might not be within price range.

Which is FASTER, 1.83 mac mini, 2.0 mac mini, or 2.1ghz macbook?

Which is more RELIABLE? less drive failures, etc.

Which is more BANG FOR THE BUCK? we already have a monitor that we can use for a mini, but not a keyboard and mouse. we decided that if we go the mac mini route, then we will get an apple keyboard, but just a regular usb mouse

You pretty well answered your own question. He needs portability to take to wifi hotspots. So that leaves only one choice. Anyways obviously the 2.1 GHz MacBook pwns the even the 2.0 GHz Mac mini. Also the monitor can be hooked up to the MacBook, when he is at home.

Since he is on a budget, buy an Apple refurb to save money.
