Hi I have Mac OS X Panther (10.3.9) and wish to update it to 10.4.1 (Tiger) and then to Leopard (10.5.1) but I can never run the .pkg files. When I run them they say that it cannot be installed. What do I need to do to get Tiger and then Leopard?

  1. Panther (10.3) to Tiger (10.4), and Tiger to Leopard (10.5) are both paid upgrades. Simply using a .pkg file won't do it - you need the whole installer on DVD. Also, Apple keeps the OS price fairly low, so they don't offer "upgrade" pricing - you have to buy the full OS, regardless of which previous version you own. In your situation, I would skip 10.4, and go straight to 10.5 (Leopard). It will install fine over 10.3.
