can you sub wholemeal flour for white in mac and cheese without affecting flavor?

  3. i have been cooking for over fourty years and i have made several kinds and plenty of mac and cheese and not once did  i  ever put flour in it, i have never heard of such a thing, it sounds disgusting, and gluey

  4. The white flour will give it  a smoother texture, just don't add too much its not really necessary

    Not everyone's taste is the same.  I personally like the Kraft brand and the generic ones taste totally different for me.  But this girl I know thinks it tastes the same.

  14. Are you making homemade mac and cheese with a white sauce?  It that what the flour is for?  Whole wheat flour will affect the flavor a little bit, making it a bit more "earthy."  Be sure to cook it (the sauce) long enough to cook the flour well so that it doesn't taste like raw flour.

  15. Presumably you're using the flour just to make a roux for the cheese sauce right?  I'm not familiar with wholemeal flour but as you are only using a small amount as a thickening agent I would assume it's fine.
