Mac help please someone?

I received a picture from a friend on gmail. I deleted the picture and it is not in my trash. I know nothing about computers...are images saved if not downloaded? I have a very new mac.

open up "finder" if you know the name of the doc, type it in.  If not, arrange by date and try to track it down that way.

Did you delete the message in your GMail account or did you download the picture and click 'Move to Trash'?

If you deleted the picture in GMail, you should have it in the GMail trash folder. It only deletes automatically after 30 days.

If you downloaded the picture, the clicked 'Move to Trash,' then you just go to your Dock, click on the trash can which should show 'virtual trash' in it and your picture should be there.

If you have deleted and emptied trash from both locations, then the picture is lost forever and you will have to request the picture from the user again.
