Question:

Mac or PC? I'm heading to college...?

My HP laptop's hard drive is fried and I'm looking for a new laptop.

I've been looking between Mac and PC and now I've come to Yahoo! Answers.

I'll be heading to Columbia College Chicago in a few weeks and I'm looking for a laptop that doesnt need the latest and greatest.

I wanna watch movies (whether or not in HD), and I wanna play just a few games that dont really require top notch graphics cards or RAM, and I just want the basics too.

Under 1,000 bucks too... please.

Any suggestions?

  1. PC = More Variety of Games, Simple and Does the Job

MAC = Complicated, Frustrating and Overpriced.

  2. You cant get a macbook under $1000. If you chose a mac, to play most games you will need to set up a dual boot with windows. But i would choose a mac

  3. in which dya think you are more experienced? in using mac or pc?

that is the first question you should think....

now your budget, which is $1000, i believe would be on a low end side if you chose a mac.. (refurbished or other stores might cost less)

if you want a laptop that  is in medium or maybe higher end... go for pc

it just gives you more bang for your buck

  4. well under 1000 bucks almsot immedialty elimintaed mac, besides they rnt all that great, unless u wonna avoid virsues, but u can simply avoid viruses on ur comp by getting ur p**n from a adult video store rather than downloading it.

  5. Both are good. But most games work with PC only.  And Macs are expensive, unless you buy a used one.

  6. you can do all the things you said with both mac and pc..

oh ye and btw coming to yahoo answer maybe wasnt the best idea... ur just get gonna get everyones opinion on whats better, so just ask around, i dont think you can go wrong with whatever you buy except that PCs are definatley cheaper than macs.

  7. PC. Apple products are such a ***** when it comes to upgrades, they're a pain in the ***. Also, they're sometimes impossibly hard to repair and troubleshoot. Unless you're computer-savvy, I wouldn't recommend Macs for anything other than good looks. However, they have improved by allowing a Windows OS to operate on it.

  11. well, PC's are most definitely cheaper, and more people are familiar with it. Mac's give you a good clean look, and the hardware isn't so different. Both can display millions of colors at one moment. PC's however are more vulnerable to spam, viruses, and malware due to the fact that their are many more PC users then Mac users, so virus writers attack at the masses.

  12. Both computers are good in its own way, you will need to choose based on your use.  What format of movies do you plan to watch?  Quicktime is Mac based while Window Media format is PC.  DVDs should play on both computers.  What is the requirement for the games you play?  Some would work on one or the other.

Since you had a HP which is PC based, you're probably better off with a PC based computer unless your needs have changed.  Also cost wise, it might be easier to find cheaper PCs than Macs.

  13. go mac and youll never go back
