  1. This is really about opinion, however I'll give you my two cents.

If it were me, I'd go with a PC in a heartbeat. Why? Well, they're much cheaper. A similarly configured Mac to a PC will be a few hundred more. As far as saying a Mac is better for graphic design, don't buy it. A PC will be the same. Nothing special about a Mac's graphic design abilities. It's all about the person using it.

As far as "their new os crashing a lot", Vista is very stable. Very stable. People who have never even used it are bashing it simply because of what they've read or heard. Again, it's very stable. And if you don't want Vista for whatever reason, there is always XP.

  2. a Pc is much better than a Mac

  3. Go for a PC because as you said, macs are far to expensive.

There is a macbook pro for sale on ebay right now for UK£1500 (approx. US$2800/Euro1,860), it's Intel Core 2 Duo 2.5ghz/2GBram/250gb HD. And it's listed as a bargain. However, on the dell website you can get an XPS laptop with Intel Core 2 Duo 2.5ghz/4GBram/400gb HD for 1,259 euro. And it's the same story for desktop units.

I bought a dell desktop (vista pro) 1 year ago. I've had no problems, no crashes, everything runs quickly. I have 2 monitors connected to it via a graphics card I installed myself. This didn't slow the machine or cause any problems. I use it to run premier pro, after effects, photoshop, illustrator, etc. for work.

Is a mac better for graphic work? No, the computer (pc or mac) will not improve your skills, that's completely down to you.

Do PCs get viruses? Yes, but so do macs. If you're worried about them then install norton or even avg free and they won't be a problem. People think macs don't get viruses, but they do. The geeks who write viruses, write them mostly for PCs, so they just don't run on macs. Macs still get them and can pass them on. However, the viruses that have been written for mac's are out there and if you get them, you will have problems.

Do PC's crash? Yes, the old ones do. If you install lots of programs then over time your pc will slow down and will hang. The idea of a pc crash where the blue screen appears, RARELY happens. They just slow down and 'hang' i.e. the program just sits there doing nothing for a while. But don't be fooled, macs can do that too. Just look around here on yahoo answers and you will see mac users having the same problems. But when your pc is 2 or 3 years old and this starts to happen, put all your files on an external harddrive (you should have a backup anyhow!) and use the restore dvd that came with your pc to format it and return it to how it was when you bought it. Also consider that if you have problems with your mac that you will probably have to send it away to be fixed. I know two people who use them for work and they were both without their macs for at least 10 days.

What about the software? PCs come out on top here again. The amount of software available for a pc vastly outweighs what you can get for a mac. However, there's nothing that you can to on one that you can't do on the other. You can buy software for a mac that allows you to run pc software, which is a good thing, but there really isn't any software for macs that people wish they could run on a pc.

  4. Mac is better for graphics, they don't get viruses, and have a stable operating system.

PCs are less expensive, and the whole Vista instability thing is blow way out of proportion. Most of the problems are caused by the out dated hardware or software people try to use with it.

The best way to decide is to find out what you will be using in professional life. Unless you plan to be working in the entertainment industry, you will most likely be using a PC.

Oh by the way, the reason Macs don't get viruses is not because it is a better operating system, it is because the hacker geeks that write the viruses, don't think the Macs are worth bothering with. All the super smart computer whizzes use PCs, as do most major corporations.
