Mac to get Batman: Arkham Asylum in October, GTA sells 114-million units and counting
A flurry of news broke out as announcements by developers and publishers hit the information highway we all know as the internet.
Rocksteady may be busy polishing their upcoming eagerly anticipated title, Batman: Arkham City, but it seems that the developer has not forgotten about its predecessor, Batman: Arkham Asylum.
The game is set for release on Apple’s Mac systems on the 13th of October, later this year. It will be released in both the US and UK territories and will retail around the €35 mark.
Whether this is a move to squeeze the last drop of sales out of the game, or to build a following of Mac users for the Batman series is still under scrutiny. To be honest it could be a bit of both.
Feral Interactive were kind enough to bless everyone with the minimum requirements needed to run Arkham Asylum:
“2.0 GHz Intel Mac with at least 2 GB RAM, 256 MB or better graphics card, and Mac OS X 10.6 or later. The following graphics cards are NOT supported: NVIDIA 7xxx series, ATI 1x100 and Intel GMA series.”
So while Mac users prepare themselves for a long overdue trip to Arkham Asylum for a date with the Joker, Rockstar have been busy proudly announcing that their best selling franchise, Grand Theft Auto has reached the 114-million units sold mark.
The figure combines the sales figures of every GTA game to have ever graced the gaming world. By graced we of course mean stolen from, beaten up or chased down.
Strauss Zelnick, the boss at Take-Two games made the announcement at the annual Growth conference (ThinkEquity) where he proudly announced that the GTA series shipped the aforementioned amount.
While GTA may have sold impressively, other Rockstar titles did pretty well on their own as well and showed enough potential to emulate GTA’s performance if they go on and become franchises on their own.
Red Dead Redemption sold 12.5-million units and Bully achieved cult status and L.A. Noire topped the sales charts for quite some time. However, the interesting thing is the level of competition between the GTA titles amongst each other.
Grand Theft Auto IV has managed to move 22-million units off shelves to date and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas fell behind that figure only by half a million units as well.
All in all, it seems that everything Rockstar seem to touch turns to gold and fans are impatiently anticipating the almost certain announcement of Grand Theft Auto V. There has been plenty of talk surrounding the game but nothing concrete has appeared so
far.
