Mac to mac video chatting?

my friend and i both have mac laptops and we have tried to video chat a bunch of times and it says there was an error something.. and it says send to apple or whatever. and it does that every time. she lives in costa rica and i live in florida. do the distances make a difference? or what? help fast! my friend has to get off aim soon! we're trying right now! helppp

You both need to be using iChat, you both need to have MacBooks or Macs with webcams. You both need to have at least DSL internet service or better (Road runner etc.). Regular dial up will not work, it's not fast enough. You could do audio chatting with out video on dial up, but that's it. Also if she or you are at  a school or at a company/worksite, some places block video chatting.
