Mac_fixit, I hope you're listening, or anyone else?

Question

I'm pretty good with macs, but macfixit is smarter with them as I've seen from the q's I've answered and he's answered.

My ipod suddenly doesn't mount on my desktop or show in itunes. But strangely it still charges. I've tried differed usb cables, different computers, rebooting, putting it in disk mode, nothing is working. Have you had this problem, the mac tech support online guide has no explanations for this, do I have damaged port on the ipod that somehow still charges which means I'll need a new one? The ipod still plays too.
