Macau Open Badminton GP Gold: Kana Ito sends Ngan Yi Cheung packing in Women’s Singles first round
Japan’s one of the most promising shuttlers Kana Ito showed a great performance in the arena when she stamped her mark over Hong Kong’s Ngan Yi Cheung in Women’s Singles first round at Kumpoo Macau Open Badminton GP Gold 2012 in Macau, on Wednesday, November
28.
The un-seeded Ito, who has been putting up good show in recent tournament, played with tremendous precision and managed to send Ngan Yi packing after a little wobble.
Japanese shuttler had to employ all of her skills to snatch the opening game from her opponent. She continued playing positive badminton and took the second game to end up the match in straight games with a close margin.
In the meanwhile, Ngan Yi played to her maximum potential in the arena and kept on troubling her Japanese challenger in both games but remained unlucky in the ending points and lost the battle with a respectable score.
A spectacular fight started from the initial points of first game and progressed closely without showing any mercy to each other in the arena.
Ito tried her best to create a reasonable gap on the board but she failed to push her rival on back foot and both of them stayed close on the board until the end of opening half.
After the mid-game interval, the in-form Ito accelerated her speed in all areas of the court but again failed to take even a small lead as her Hong Kong challenger was also playing in the similar fashion.
The score reached at 21-21 when Ito showed her brilliance and managed to claim two consecutive points and won the set with a dramatic 23-21 score on the board.
In the following set, both shuttlers again put in extra effort to dominate the pace of rallies in the opening half but none of them could manage it until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Ito played positive badminton by taking the bird early from all corners of the court and managed to end up the game with a close 21-19 score on the board.
The impressive Japanese shuttler bagged a narrow victory in first round encounter against Ngan Yi with a tight margin of 23-21 and 21-19.
