Macau Open GP Gold: Bae Youn Joo overwhelms Li Michelle to enter into Women’s Singles quarter-final
Korea’s Bae Youn Joo had to struggle hard to chuck out the lower ranked Li Michelle of Canada in the Women’s Singles round-of-16 in the 2011 Macau Open GP Gold, on Thursday, December 1, in Macau.
Youn Joo, who has been ranked at number 8 in the Women’s Singles world rankings, worked really hard to beat the spirited Canadian opponent in a thrilling match that took wonderful badminton for three games. The Korean played superb badminton in the end and
won the battle in 53 minutes.
In the first set of the match, the Canadian opened the game in an incredible way as she stunned the higher ranked Korean by winning the opening game with a remarkable difference. Nevertheless, Youn Joo came back in the second game by playing better badminton
and took it with a tight score. In the final set of the match, the Canadian failed to match the speed of her Korean opponent and lost the set with a big margin.
Michelle opened the first game in a stunning fashion as she played with aggression and speed. Her impressive execution of strokes in the right areas of the court spared no room for the Korean to dominate the rallies. She played wonderful badminton in the
whole opening game while; the Korean made many unforced mistakes and lost the set with a margin of 13-21.
In the following game, the Korean changed his tactics to stop the aggression of her Canadian rival. However, she could not manage a strong position in the second set as the score remained close until the ending points. Youn Joo played with precision in the
end and managed to win the game with a tight score of 21-19.
In the final set, the Korean found her impressive flow and started to play with precision. Her impressive net play and killing smashes spared no chance for Michelle to fight back in the set. Youn Joo won the game with a huge margin of 21-8. This entertaining
fight ended up in favour of the Korean who won it with a 13-21, 21-19 and 21-8 score in 53 minutes.
Youn Joo will take on Chinese Taipei’s Cheng Shao Chieh in the Women’s Singles quarter-final of the tournament.
