China’s emerging shuttler, Du Pengyu has penetrated into Men’s Singles final after toppling Indonesia’s in-form player, Simon Santoso in the Men’s Singles semi-final of the 2011 Macau Open GP Gold, on Saturday, December 3, in Macau.
The World Number 10, Pengyu played superb badminton and ended the winning run of Santoso at the semi-final stage of the tournament. The Chinese put up tremendous show against the Indonesian and fished up the match in straight sets by consuming 53 minutes
in the court. Santoso failed to continue his winning streak and lost the set without any considerable fight.
Pengyu played wonderful game in the opening set after trailing far behind and took it with a decent margin. In the second game, Santoso tried to put up strong show but failed against the spirited Chinese and lost the second set with the same score.
The first game started in an interesting manner when both men showed aggression in the court to dominate the pace of the game. It was Santoso who started to build up lead by playing composed and positive badminton. Pengyu failed to control the pace of the
game in the first half. The aggressive approach of Santoso helped him to reach at 11-6 until the break.
After the interval, the Chinese played on a different level as he started to bridge the gap and remained successful by taking five consecutive points to reach at 11-11. Santoso lost his focus in the game but Pengyu remained composed and took the set with
a good margin of 21-17.
In the second set of the match, Santoso tried to set up lead in the opening points of the game but failed as his Chinese challenger was quicker this time. Pengyu played wonderful game and missed no chance to earn points. He remained focused throughout the
game and pushed Santoso in all corners of the court. The Chinese shuttler won the battle with a score of 21-17. The overall result of this match was 21-17 and 21-17.
In the final contest, Pengyu will take on Korea’s Lee Hyun Il, who defeated Malaysia’s Hafiz Muhammad Hashim in the other semi-final showdown.
