Macau Open GP Gold: Wang Shixian overpowers Xuerui Li in the Women’s Singles semi-final
China’s talented shuttler, Wang Shixian has proved her supremacy in the game by beating her team-mate Xuerui Li in the Women’s Singles semi-final of the 2011 Macau Open GP Gold, in Macau, on Saturday, December 3.
The world Number Two Shixian, who is the top seed in the Women’s Singles category of the tournament, had to employ all skills to beat the spirited Xuerui in three games. The higher ranked Chinese played better badminton in the third set and won it in 68
minutes to reach in the final of the event.
The first game was a tough fight between both Chinese shuttlers as they played planned game. However, Xuerui took the game by playing well in the end. Nevertheless, the higher ranked Shixian played a completely different game in the second set and took it
with a one-sided score. In the final set, the top seed played wonderful badminton and remained ahead of her opponent to take the game with a reasonable margin.
The opening set was breath-taking when both ladies remained neck-to-neck in the game by playing to their full potential. They remained close in the opening half of the game by matching the speed of the rallies. The score progressed in the similar fashion
until 20-20, when Shixian made an error and lost the set with a tight margin of 20-22.
Sung by the loss of the first game, Shixian bounced back in the second set and she played with wonderful aggression and remained dominant in the whole set. Xuerui failed to match the speed of her higher ranked challenger. The top seed finished off the second
set with a wonderful difference of 21-11.
In the final game of this superb fight, Xuerui lifted up her level of play and matched the speed of Shixian. The score remained close in the opening half of the deciding game. However, Shixian started to dominate the game in the ending points and won the
set with a 21-16 score on the board. The final score of this semi-final contest was 20-22, 22-11 and 21-16.
In the title match, Shixian will take on another Chinese player, Li Han, who stunned Cheng Shao Chieh of Chinese Taipei in the other semi-final contest.
