Macau Open GP Gold: Wang Shixian tames Li Han to claim Women’s Singles title – Badminton news
China’s Wang Shixian has found her winning form back as she has claimed Women’s Singles title after taming her younger compatriot, Li Han in the final of the 2011 Macau Open GP Gold, in Macau, on Sunday, December 4.
The World Number 2 Shixian, who was the top ranked shuttler in the Women’s Singles draw, played remarkable badminton in the whole tournament won the crown in style. The un-seeded Han displayed phenomenal performance in the whole tournament but failed to
continue her impressive run in the final of the event and lost it to her higher ranked opponent in straight games. Shixian emerged as the winner by playing dominating game for 45 minutes.
In the opening set of the match, the top seed played well throughout the game and took it with a remarkable margin. In the second set of the game, Han played well in the opening points but lost her control as the game progressed and eventually lost it with
a comfortable margin.
In the opening game of the title match, Shixian started in a dominating way as she dictated the pace of the game and remained ahead of her younger team-mate. Her powerful and accurate strokes troubled Han and she was taking the bird a bit late, which helped
Shixian to dominate the rallies. Until the break, the top seed was leading by reaching at 11-7.
After the break, Han tried to accelerate her speed but failed to control the bird because her higher ranked challenger was quicker in taking the bird early from all corners of the court. Shixian remained focused and did not allow her opponent to bridge the
gap at any stage of the game. She won the set with a remarkable difference of 21-14.
The second game started in an interesting way as both female shuttlers started to play attacking badminton. The score reached at 3-3 when Shixian started to accelerate her speed and remained successful in reaching at 11-5.
Shixian continued her roller-coaster performance and faced no trouble at all from her opponent in the whole game. She finished the game with a comfortable margin of 21-14. The final result of this 45-minute final match was 21-14 and 21-14.
