Macau Open Grand Prix: Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka advances into Men’s Singles round-of-16
Indonesia’s emerging shuttler Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka advances into Men’s Singles round-of-16 after beating Chinese Taipei’s Shih Hua Teng in the second round of the 2011 Macau Open Grand Prix, on Wednesday, November 30, in Macau.
Rumbaka has been playing superb badminton for the last six months and has reached at 25th position in the Men’s Singles world standings. However, in the second-round match, the Indonesian had to work extra hard for three sets to beat the spirited
Taipei shuttler in a 51-minute battle.
The opening set was absolutely thrilling as both shuttlers progressed closely until the ending points when the Indonesian remained lucky to score the winning point. However, Shih Hua played flawless game in the following game and levelled the match by winning
it. In the final set, Rumbaka played to his full potential and bagged the game easily with a remarkable margin.
Both shuttlers opened the first set in a tremendous fashion as they played attacking badminton coupled with wonderful fast drives. Their impressive show grabbed the attention of the crowd as they progressed by remaining equal until the score reached at 20-20.
Rumbaka played smart game at this stage by accelerating his speed and won the set with a margin of 22-20.
In the following game, both shuttlers again opened the game in aggressive way. The Indonesian was flawless in his placement of wonderful smashes. However, Shih Hua was also quicker in executing semi-smashes and fast drops to break the flow of his higher
ranked Indonesian.
Rumbaka lost his focus in the second half of the game and made a few unforced errors and paid the price in the form of set with a 16-21 score.
In the deciding set of this thrilling contest, Rumbaka played with precision from the opening points of the set and remained successful in setting up a comfortable gap by leaving his opponent far behind. He remained on course without dropping the pace of
the rallies and won the final set with a one-sided margin of 21-11.
Rumbaka emerged as the winner of this Men’s Singles second round contest with a margin of 22-20, 16-21 and 21-11.
