China’s impressive shuttlers, Chai Biao and Guo Zhendong have grabbed Men’s Doubles title after beating Korea’s higher ranked duo of Ko Sung Hyun and Yoo Yeon Seong in the title match of the 2011 Macau Open Grand Prix Gold, in Macau, on Sunday, December
4.
The World Number Seven and the third seeds in the championship, Biao and Zhendong proved their skills against the World Number Four, Sung Hyun and Yeon Seong, who were the top seeds in the tournament. The Chinese shuttlers were uncontrollable for the Koreans
as they played with precision and won the battle in straight games by taking 47 minutes in the court.
In the first set, the Chinese duo played well throughout the set and won it with a tight margin. In the second game, the fight was quite tough until the final points. However, the Chinese shuttlers proved their worth again and took the game with the similar
close margin.
Biao and Zhendong played tremendous badminton in the opening half of the first set and reached at 11-8 until the one-minute interval. They faced no trouble from their opponent, who was trailing behind because of their defensive approach.
In the second half of the opening game, the higher ranked Koreans played aggressive game and remained successful in leveling the score by reaching at 11-11. Both sides put up superb show of attacking badminton and reached at 16-16.
At this crucial stage, the top seeds failed to play positive badminton as their opponents took over the control of the game. Biao and Zhendong displayed wonderful performance in the ending points and took the game with a 21-19 score.
The crowd could not have asked for better competition as both sides remained toe-to-toe in the second set. Tight from the opening points until the concluding phase, the scored remained close and reached at 17-17.
At this point, Biao and Zhendong played smart badminton by becoming fast at the net and remained successful in winning the second game with a narrow margin of 21-19. The 47-minute title match ended up with a 21-19 and 21-19 score on the board.
