Macau Open Grand Prix Gold: Simon Santoso ousts Parupalli Kashyap in the Men’s Singles quarter-final
Indonesia’s Simon Santoso, who is in superb form at the moment, has secured his place in the Men’s Singles semi-final after beating India’s Parupalli Kashyap in the quarter-final at the 2011 Macau Open Grand Prix Gold, on Friday, December 2, in Macau.
Simon, who has achieved the 8th place in the Men’s Singles world rankings, put up thrilling show by playing to his full potential and ended the road for Kashyap, who is also in tremendous form. The Indonesian played well and finished the match
in straight games by taking only 36 minutes. The Indian failed to make an impact on Simon as he failed to play positive badminton.
In the first game of the set, Simon Santoso remained successful in winning it with a quite close margin. However, he found his impressive flow in the second set of the match and won it with a remarkable margin without facing any trouble from the Indian.
Right from the opening rallies, both shuttlers put up thrilling show as they remained close until the score reached at 3-3. At this stage, Simon accelerated his speed to dominate the rallies and remained ahead of the Indian throughout the game until the
score reached in the final phase of the set.
Kashyap, who was been trailing behind his higher ranked opponent played with aggression and leveled the score by reaching at 19-19. At this critical stage of the first set, the Indonesian played smart badminton and managed to win the set by scoring two consecutive
points and put up a 21-19 score on the board.
In the following set of the match, Simon became a killer of the bird as he missed no chance to bury the bird in the India’s court. His composed and flawless game spared no opportunity for Kashyap to make a comeback in the second set. Simon remained miles
ahead of Kashyap in this game and finished it with a one-sided score of 21-10. The finals core of this interesting match was 21-19 and 21-10.
In the semi-final, Simon will take on China’s Du Pengyu, who defeated his team-mate Wang Zhengming in the other quarter-final.
