Macau Open Grand Prix: Lee Hyun Il tames Hsueh Yi Hsuan in the Men’s Singles round-of-16

Korea’s veteran Lee Hyun Il has penetrated into Men’s Singles quarter-final as he has tamed Chinese Taipei’s Hsueh Yi Hsuan in the Men’s Singles round-of-16 match of the 2011 Macau Open Grand Prix, in Macau, on Thursday, December 1.
The experienced Lee Hyun, who is currently placed at number 15 in the Men’s Singles rankings, put up superb show against the World Number 34, Yi Hsuan in a straight-set contest. He played with wonderful precision and finished up the game in just 35 minutes
without facing strong resistance from his challenger.
The Korean played with incredible perfection in the first game and won it with a wonderful margin. In the second game, the Taipei shuttler put up strong resistance but not enough to get rid of Lee Hyun, who finished the second game with a decent score.
It was the first meeting of these two shuttlers and both tried their best to win this first head-to-head meeting. The Korean started the game in an aggressive way and scored three consecutive points in the first rally. He was just impressive in his execution
of strokes and he kept the pace at the maximum level. Until the break, he was leading the set with a reasonable score of 11-8.
After the break, Lee Hyun put in extra speed and pushed his opponent on the back foot. The Taipei shuttler failed to match the speed of the rallies and made many mistakes. The Korean won the set with a fantastic margin of 21-13.
In the following set of this round-of-16 match, both players delivered their best and remained close until the score reached at 9-9, when the Korean took two points to make it an 11-9 lead until the interval. After the break, he continued his impressive
run in the second game as he extended his lead without any problem and finished up the second game in a striking fashion with a 21-15 score on the board.
This Men’s Singles pre-quarter-final battle went in the favour of impressive Lee Hyun, who took just 35 minutes to send Yi Hsuan packing with a 21-13 and 21-15 score.
