OK, so im looking for a new laptop to last me through college. These are the two I want. for what you get, the prices match up. The apple gives you more processing power for your dollar, but the m15x gives a much better display through the use of a 8800GTX and a 1920X1200 screen. My question is, if im not going to be gaming... how much difference would I notice between the two (Graphics wise)? also, if I decide later, can I get a 8800GTX for the apple? and do they make a 1920X1200 macbook pro that is 15.4"?

  1. If you just want it for college, you don't need a power-draining 8800GTX and high-resolution screen. The Macbook Pro also has the advantage of coming with Mac OS X rather than Windows. And no, you can't upgrade the graphics in the Macbook, you won't need to.

Although to be honest, you might as well save yourself some money and get the regular Macbook.

  2. Now first of all, I own a 2.2 MacBook Pro, that's the early 2008 model.

If you won't use your laptop for gaming, the Mac is a good choice.

You cannot change the graphics card, or I guess you could but that would be a pain in the ***.

If you don't do heavy stuff like having 8 to 10 windows open at the same time on your desktop, it won't be a really big difference.

    The choice is yours.

  3. OK - if you are going to be gaming a lot the MacBook Pro is "ok" but the Alienware would be much better (but over priced)

If you are not going to be gaming the MacBook Pro 15" would be your best choice. You can stil enjoy gaming on it as it has an upgradable graphics card.

As to display from personal experience of being a designer I would recommend the colour accuracy of the MacBook Pro.
