all im running is firefox, admittedly i have a fair few tabs open. But i have 4gb of ram. It feels quite hot at the base too, and the fan is running fast.

i used to use windows and would usually go to task manager and see the cpu usage, and maybe do a defrag....but how do u that kinda stuff in mac? And if those options arent in mac, what are the usual troubleshooting steps?

  1. I guess Apple ain't cool anymore

  2. Hi, have a look in your Applications folder where you will find a Utilities folder. Inside you will find a program called Activity Monitor which is the equivalent of Windows Task Manager.

Have you tried restarting lately, that usually clears a few problems up.

    Good Luck

  3. Is it running on battery power?  Perhaps the energy saver settings are actually making it work harder.  Though I suspect this is not it.

Is it being used on a desk, or on your lap.  If on your lap then the ventilation channels may b e being covered by your clothing.

...or it may b e broken.  It may be worth i) a look on the Apple forums; ii) going to your "local" Apple store.

    Good luck.
