Maccabi Electra, Emporio Armani and Partizan MT:S win: Euroleague Group C 4th week Review: Part 1
During the fourth week of the Turkish Airlines Euro league, three games took place in Group C. Here is a brief review of the games:
Maccabi Electra 79 - Anadolu Efes 72
Four players reached double figures as Maccabi Electra edged past Anadolu Efes 79-72 on November 10. Electra is now the first team to win a Euroleague game in Sinan Erdem Arena this season. It was second consecutive victory for
Maccabi in Group C and second straight loss for Efes.
Jordan Farmar posted a team-high 18 points on 2 for 3 shooting from three-point range, dished out six assist, grabbed five rebounds and stole the ball twice. David Blu totalled 15 points and grabbed four rebounds while Sofoklis
Schortsanitis and Lior Eliyahu added 12 points each for Electra.
“A very important road win. Congratulations to my players,” Maccabi head coach David Blatt said.
Sasha Vujacic led Efes with a game-high 21 points, hitting 5 for 5 from free throw line, and stole the ball twice in more than 34 minutes of action. Stanko Barac punctuated 17 points on a 7 for 9 shooting from two-point range to
go along with three rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Maccabi head all four quarters of the game and ended on 60 percent shooting (24 for 40) from two-point range, limiting Anadolu to just 46.5 percent ( 20 for 43).
Blatt said, “We won every quarter, not by many points, but every quarter was ours and that is very important.”
Efes held a 13-8 lead late in the first quarter before Electra reeled off a 6-0 run capped by James dunk in the closing minutes for a 14-13 lead after one.
In the second quarter, Anadolu widened their lead to six points, 36-30, early. Maccabi however scored the next five points, including a three-pointer by Akyo to cut their deficit to one, 36-35. However, Tal Burstein fed James for
a dunk to edge out front 38-35 at halftime. Electra limited Efes to 18 points in the third quarter and pushed their advantage to 59-53 after 30 minutes.
Efes made a comeback in the fourth quarter and tied the score at 70-70 but Maccabi used a 6-0 run to take control and then maintained their hold until the final buzzer.
EA7 Emporio Armani Milan 81 - Belgacom Spirou 76
EA7 Emporio Armani Milan snapped their two-game losing streak with an 81-76 victory over Belgacom Spirou on November 10 at RTL Spiroudome. Armani Milan improved to 2-2 in the group while Spirou slipped to 3-1 with second straight
loss of this season.
