Macedonia finishes 11th by outperforming Turkey: Day twelve – European Water Polo Championships
Macedonian squad outperformed Turkey in their Men’s classification round for eleventh position on twelfth day of the 2012 European Water Polo Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands on Friday, January 27 at the Pieter van den Hoogenband Swim Stadium.
The Macedonian team faced strong competition from Turkish squad, but they managed to prevail over their opponent by a margin of two goals. With their stupendous strategy, the Macedonian players wrapped up a 9-7 victory over Turkey.
After a prolong series of qualification rounds, the European Championships are coming to an end. These championships are of fundamental importance as they pave the way for the 2012 London Olympic Games and provide a chance to superlative teams to improve their strategy before the forthcoming Olympics.
The first quarter saw ruthless aggression of Macedonian team, which suppressed all efforts of their challenging team and scored three goals to serve notice of their talent. In contrast, their effort was trailed by just one goal accomplishment from the Turkish squad and the round expired with an effort of 3-1 from both sides.
Subsequently, Turkish squad geared up their efforts in the second quarter and notched up two goals to level the score with Macedonia. Unfortunately, their effort could not last for long as a similar struggle was made from the Macedonian team and the score went up to 5-3 after the first half.
The arena experienced a wonderful struggle from both sides in the third quarter, but Macedonia managed to overwhelm Turkey’s lone goal accomplishment by achieving two goals. With their relentless efforts, the Macedonian team turned the score to 7-4 after the third round.
The fourth quarter saw elevated efforts of Turkish team that stroke three goals while Macedonia succeeded in scoring two goals only. Nevertheless, Turkey’s effort failed to make substantial changes on the points table and Macedonia secured their victory by two goals.
Dimitar Dimovski of Macedonia chipped in two goals for his team and was declared man of the match for making a vital contribution in his team’s win.
Furthermore, the crowd acknowledged aggressive efforts of Macedonian squad while the championship will conclude on January 29 after the completion of all matches.
