Macheda wants United chance
Federico Macheda says he hopes Sir Alex Ferguson will give him a chance in the United side at the start of the Premier League season.
Macheda shot to United fame when he came off of the bench to score a dramatic late winner in the Premier League game against Aston Villa at Old Trafford last season.
The Italian has been playing well during pre-season and has scored goals in a number of friendly games. He says he knows the only way he'll get a chance is if he keeps playing well but he maintains his dream is to become one of the best young players in United's history.
Macheda has a number of attributes that would ensure he does well in the United side if Ferguson does show him a great deal of faith. However, the pressures of the Premier League may mean he has to wait a little bit longer for his chance to shine.
Player Attributes
Macheda's game is all about pace and energy. He does not have that much skill when he is actually on the ball but he uses other parts of his game well to get into some good positions on the field.
He has a very good killer instinct when he is in front of goal. His goals so far during the pre-season games have reminded many United fans of a young Ruud van Nistelrooy who went on to become one of the greatest strikers in United history.
Macheda seems young and willing to listen to the advice of those around him. This is very beneficial when you consider that he is blessed by the experience that he has around him.
He said: "I am ready and I hope that the manager will choose me for more games. I think this could be my year. I had played in the previous tour games but I hadn't been very happy with my performance, so I really wanted to show to everyone that I was ready."
A realistic wait
Macheda could be in for a bit of a wait because of the pressures and expectations linked to Premier League football. It's important not to forget that United have some of the best players in the world who are always going to be picked ahead of the Italian.
This means he could be restricted to games in domestic cup competitions for another season. However, it also means that he will be trying extra hard if he does get thrown onto the pitch during a Premier League game at some point early in the season.
He added: "We're getting close to the start of the season and so I'm really pleased with those two goals. I have to continue doing well. I have to be ready for any chance that the manager (Alex Ferguson) gives me. Last season I had a lot of injuries – I was out for nearly five months and so I couldn't really show my ability – but this season I hope to have more space and show what I can do."
Advice
Macheda has all of the talent that a player needs to score a goal during a top flight game. However, be wary of jumping in and backing him because he is not going to get too many games where he starts in the Premier League.
The best option is to wait until you see the games that he is going to take part in. Don't be afraid to have a punt on him scoring in a game that he starts in because this could be a nice earner for you.
