Machetes in Panama?

Question

Last year while in Panama all along the roadside through the entire country we would see men walking the highways with machetes and tall rubber boots. Anybody know what they were doing? I thought perhaps they were cutting bananas along the roadside, but never got the real answer. Thanks

They where cutting for sure grass. that's one of the often things they do there with an Machete and yes they also cut Banana from a tree. But like i said mostly they are cutting grass.

They were probably just cutting grass and brush.  Whatever they were cutting, the tall rubber boots are worn for snake protection, not to keep their feet dry.  In fact, in the heat their feet would be wetter after a days work than if they were barefoot.
