  1. Surprisingly, the population during the Incan times was not much lower than it is now.  Anthropologists estimate there were around 20 million people living within the Incan Empire, which is slightly larger than Peru, where today about 28 million people live.  The irony is that in those times, using supposedly primitive agricultural techniques, hunger was relatively unknown.  Peru today has difficulty growing enough food for its entire population.

  2. Hello,

The population of the whole Inca Empire that covered Ecuador, Peru, Argentina and Chile, was of about 12 million people.

During the colony of the Spaniards the native population decreased to 600,000 due to the work on land and old and silver mines.

The population of the city of Cuzco during the Tahuantinsuyo was of 300,000 and was reduced during the colony to 40,000.

The population of Peru is of 28 million and of Cusco is about 1 million.

In fact the techniques of the Incas in organization, irrigation, hydrology and architecture were very advances. It is known that the irrigation systems of the Inca empire were better than the ones used today in Peru. The Inca empire was so disciplined and organized that everyone had something to do and hunger was not a problem.

    I hope this helps you.
