  2. Once in Cuzco the train to Macchu Picchu cost US $ 100 each and the entrance fee is US $ 42 (foreigner), US $ 22 (peruvian).

If you want to do the inka trail (short version) some web sites suggest that you reserve with 45 days anticipation. I'm including a web page that charges you US $ 280 to do a 2/d 1/n trip to Machu Picchu. They drop you of some miles short from Aguas Calientes at the 104 Km in the ruins of CHACHABAMBA and you make a 2 1/2 hour climb to WIÑAYWAYNA then have lunch, then an afternoon walk towards the entry "INTIPUNKU" (the door of the sun) you can have a panoramic view of Macchu Picchu from this point but I don't think you go inside that day. You go down and take a bus to Aguas Caliente where you stay the night in a double bedroom and relax at the hot springs swimming pool until 9 pm (price not included in the package).

The next day you go to macchu picchu by bus at 6 am this is great because the large croud arrives by train at 10 am this will give you the time you need to climb WAYNA PICCHU, the tall mountain that flanks the city (you'll need 2 hours to cover it). The visit at Macchu Picchu ends around 5:30pm but generally the guides make you go down to the train station at 4 pm so you wont miss the train.

Try to be in shape before coming because the walk is all up hill and the good thing about the short version of the inka trail is that you walked it between 2,250 - 2,700 mt above sea level and not at 4,000 mt like in the long version. I don't know about the short version, but the long one always gets booked out, specialy in June-July
