  1. Normally, you fly to Cuzco from Lima. The normal price is about 100 USD one way. Aero Condor normally has a better price. LAN Peru may be a bit more expensive. The flight is only a bit over an hour, no point paying more for better airline. So, about 200 USD return airfare.

The package from Cuzco to Machu Picchu is normally about 300-400 USD, depending on which hotel you stay, the train service you take (Backpacker or the Vista Dome), whether you stay overnight in Aguas Caliente or not. The package normally includes a guide in Machu Picchu.

Doing this will push the price up to about 500-600 USD inclusive airfare.

Otherwise, fly to Cusco, stay overnight in Cusco, about 40 USD you will get decent hotel. Next day, catch first train to Aguas Caliente (I think about 7 or 8 am), get there about noon, then catch the bus straight to Machu Picchu (only 30 minutes bus). You will have about 2-3 hours in Machu Picchu, then catch the bus back to Aguas Caliente. The last bus back is about 5 pm, but the last train to Cusco is at 4 (or 5 pm, not sure).

You may be able to get by with 400 USD, inclusive air fare, but I seriously think 500 is a better estimate. If you stay overnight in Aguas Caliente, then you can catch the first bus to Machu Picchu and can spend HOURS there and still be able to catch the last train to Cusco leisurely.

Anyway, this is CHristmas time, prices may go up, and not sure if there is any air ticket left. My suggestion, go to reputable travel agent in Lima asap and ask them to arrange the trip for you.

Machu Picchu is awesome, it is definitely a must see if you can make it.

  2. Every tour operator I have come across, including those doing the Machu Pichu trek, do not include air tickets for scheduled flights.

  3. Do you have ANY idea just HOW LONG IT TAKES to make the trek from Lima to Machu Pichu?  You are only going to be in country 3 days... you won't have enough time.
