Maciej Zoniuk captures Men’s 1500m freestyle gold medal - 7th Open Luxembourg Nationals
The 16-year-old Maciej Zoniuk captured the gold medal of the Men’s 1500m freestyle on the concluding day of the 7th Open Luxembourg Nationals.
Despite of his overwhelming efforts, Zoniuk of Wks Slask Wroclaw was almost 18 seconds slower than the meet record of the 1500m freestyle event. The meet record was made by Mazin Aziz, who posted a time of 16 minutes and 02.98 seconds during the same Luxembourg
meet in 2008.
Nevertheless, the teenager, Zoniuk, was comfortably away from his fellow competitors and won the gold medal of the event by clocking an impressive time of 16 minutes and 20.72 seconds. He was followed by 22-year-old Thibaut Lionel Le Dallour of Swimming
Luxembourg, who stayed almost 44 seconds behind him and posted a time of 17 minutes and 04.70 seconds for the silver medal. Similarly, Stephan Fandel of Cercle de Natation Diekirch stayed almost eight seconds behind Le Dallour and submitted a time of 17 minutes
and 12.00 seconds for the bronze medal.
Likewise, the 18-year-old Fandel was 11.22 seconds away from his closest competitor, Patrick Zepp of Swimming Club Redange, who appeared on the finishing wall for the fourth fastest spot, with a timing of 17 minutes and 23.22 seconds. He was followed by
Gregory Rubio of Swimming Luxembourg, who emerged on the finishing wall as the fifth fastest swimmer, by touching the wall in 17 minutes and 53.33 seconds.
Markus Bermes of Swimming Club Le Dauphin Ett concluded his swim for the sixth position, by clocking a time of 18 minutes and 26.68 seconds. He was almost four seconds ahead of his strongest competitor, Florian Waltzing of Schwammclub Deifferdang, who gained
the seventh fastest spot by completing his swim in a time of 18 minutes and 30.84 seconds. The final spot of the race was secured by Yuma Matsuyama, who ended his swim in a time of 19 minutes and 05.65 seconds.
In addition, the championship concluded after the scheduled final session, while position holders were awarded medals and accolades for their scintillating efforts.
