Mack Darragh claims Men’s 200m butterfly: Day one – 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals
Mack Darragh of OAK claimed gold medal of the Men’s 200m butterfly on first day of the 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals at the Edmonton Kinsmen Sport Centre in Edmonton on Thursday, July 19.
Darragh spoiled the party of his competitors in the four-lap butterfly discipline. With his unmatchable efforts, Darragh managed to overpower his strongest challenger over the finishing blockade for gold medal.
His gruelling effort remained one stroke ahead of his following swimmer as he tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 00.30 seconds for gold medal.
The gold medallist was followed by Zack Chetrat of TSC, who stayed 0.33 seconds slower from him and transpired on the finishing end as second position holder by producing a time of 2 minutes and 00.63 seconds.
Chetrat was followed by Coleman Allen of VAND, who stayed nearly two and a half body lengths apart and surfaced on the finishing wall as bronze medallist by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 03.05 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Brayden Salmon of LAC, who remained just 0.27 seconds slower and settled on the finishing end as fourth position holder by posting a time of 2 minutes and 03.32 seconds.
Subsequently, Salmon remained just 0.01 seconds lucky from Kevin Nelson of CASC, who secured fifth fastest spot of the event by producing a time of 2 minutes and 03.33 seconds.
Sixth position of the discipline was secured by Pierre-Alexan Renaud of PPO, who stayed nearly 0.70 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 04.08 seconds.
Renaud was followed by Thomas Jobin of ESWIM, who stayed 0.43 seconds apart and tapped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 04.51 seconds for seventh position.
Jobin was followed by Mohamed Eldah of Crusaders, who was just 0.10 seconds behind and occupied eighth position of the discipline by posting a time of 2 minutes and 04.61 seconds.
Darragh was extremely pleased with his victory in the distant butterfly discipline and said that he would train hard to achieve the same at upcoming events.
