Mack Horton claims Men’s 1500m freestyle gold – 2013 Australian Youth Olympic Festival
Mack Horton of Australia Green claimed gold medal of the Men’s 1500m freestyle on concluding day of the 2013 Australian Youth Olympic Festival at Berkeley Aquatic Club, on Sunday, January 20, 2013.
The 16-year-old Horton lived up to the expectations of his supporters as he dominated the playoff of the race. With his commendable pace, he showed no leniency to his opponents and tapped the wall for gold medal.
Horton remained considerably ahead of his following swimmers and touched the wall for gold medal with an effort of 15 minutes and 04.87 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Yuto Sato of Japan, who stayed almost six seconds behind and surfaced on the finishing end for silver medal by producing an effort of 15 minutes and 10.58  seconds.
Third position of the race was secured by Katsuki Hashiguchi of Japan, who stayed 19.11 seconds slower and secured bronze medal of the race by reporting an effort of 15 minutes and 29.69 seconds.
Hashiguchi was followed by Jack McLoughlin of Australia Gold, who stayed prominently slower from his former finisher and settled on the wall as fourth position holder by producing an effort of 15 minutes and 48.73 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Peter Brothers of Canada, who stayed almost one body length behind and surfaced on the finishing end by clocking a time of 15 minutes and 49.42 seconds.
Brothers remained almost 12 seconds faster from Cameron Blair of New Zealand, who occupied sixth position of the race by submitting an effort of 16 minutes and 01.55 seconds.
Seventh spot of the race was obtained by Carter Edgecombe of New Zealand, who stayed nearly three seconds slower and hit the wall with an effort of 16 minutes and 04.36 seconds.
Last position of the race was obtained by Bran Cruz de Almeida of Brazil, who stayed nearly 12 seconds apart and hit the wall with the timing of 16 minutes and 16.71 seconds.
Furthermore, Horton received massive appreciation from the audience for his notable efforts while the position holders raked medals at the victor ceremony of the event.
