Mack Rhoades hires Augie Busch as Head Swimming Coach of University of Houston – Swimming News
University of Houston has hired former assistant coach of the University of Arizona, Augie Busch, as the new head coach of their swimming program.
Houston’s Athletics Director, Mack Rhoades, announced the decision about Busch’s hiring and was pleased to recruit the nationally recognised swimming coach.
With the decision, Busch has became the fourth swimming head coach of the University of Houston and is a replacement of the late Mark Taylor. Mark Taylor was the third head coach of Houston, who died in March 2011 due to a severe heart-attack.
The director was very thrilled with Busch’s hiring and said, “One thing became very apparent early on in this process with Augie. He cares about his student-athletes. The number of highly decorated swimmers who spoke out about Augie was astounding. Not only
was it clear he made them better swimmers, but he had a major impact on their growth as people and citizens of their community.”
While expressing his views about the new coach, Mack said that Augie is very experienced and has been around the National Collegiate Athletic Association and All- American champions, which could be very useful for their athletes. He also said that under
the guidance of their new coach, the swimming and diving team can perform considerably well at the championships.
During Busch’s coaching career, the University of Arizona entered the top-five NCAA rankings 15 times in Division 1, Division 2 and Division 3 Swimming and Diving Championships.
Busch made a remarkable contribution to the Individual Medley and back-stroke swimmers at Arizona, along with his participation as the programme’s recruiting manager. He is renowned to have an understanding of unique swimming techniques that could help swimmers
to make considerable changes in their performance. His stupendous coaching style has made him a source of inspiration for his pupils at the University of Arizona.
Augie has produced three NCAA champions including 21 individual All-American gold medallists and ten national relay champions. He is the descendant of six-time NCAA Coach of the Year, Frank Busch, who is also acting as the Director to National USA Swimming
Team.
Rhoades placed his firm belief in Augie’s expertise and said that he is confident that Busch will fulfill his responsibilities and work for the improvement of their swimming squad.
In addition, the newly hired Busch praised the facilities available to him and said, “Houston is a program with a first-class facility and an established nationally ranked diving program with Jane (Figueiredo).”
Busch said that he has a plan for his new pupils and the University of Houston will see a huge improvement at the next NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
