Mackenzy Bernadeau’s starting role with Dallas Cowboys in jeopardy – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys’ guard, Mackenzy Bernadeau, joined the team a couple of months ago expecting to take the starting role in the 2012 National Football League (NFL) season, but the starting position seems to be in jeopardy as he is expected to miss the training
camp and preseason games owing to hip injury.
Bernadeau started his professional NFL career in 2008 with the Carolina Panthers and played four seasons for them.
When he joined the Cowboys, it was expected that Bernadeau would miss the organised team activities (OTAs), but his latest recovery timeline suggests that he might need a total of 10-12 weeks to get completely fit.
If he takes that much time to recover, the guard will not only miss the OTAs but also the training camp in July. Not only that, he might also miss a few preseason games.
During his absence, other players including some rookies will get a chance to fill in the void and if they manage to impress the coaches then Bernadeau might not get the starting role.
Although it is still too early to speculate about Bernadeau’s starting role, the recent statement from the team’s head coach, Jason Garrett, suggests that anything is possible.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, Garrett denied commenting on Bernadeau’s starting role in the next season and said:
“The biggest thing he has to do is really get himself healthy. He's gone through that process. He told me he started the rehab up in Colorado three hours after he got out of the surgery. It's an aggressive rehab and he's trying to get himself back and is
doing a good job so far, and our training staff does such a good job getting these guys back.”
Bernadeau will not be able to attend the team’s practices, but Garrett wants him to say with the players and participate in all the team meetings so as to get mentally ready.
The head coach said:
“He has to stay close to it, be engaged in the meetings, be engaged on the practice field and get as much of the information as he can so when he comes back for the start of training camp, he's ready to roll.”
