Maclin Davis and Dakota Hodgson triumph Men’s events - Arizona Invitational Swimming Championships
Maclin Davis and Dakota Hodgson dominated the Men’s final with their scintillating performances, on the third day of the 2011 Arizona Invitational Swimming Championships.
The session concluded after the finals of the 100m butterfly, 200m freestyle, 100m back-stroke and the 400m Individual Medley (IM) for the swimmers falling in the 15 years of age and above category.
The session initiated with the 100m butterfly, where NAC-SE’s Maclin Davis demonstrated his gruelling efforts to earn the title of the event. Davis won the gold medal in a time of 54.89 seconds. He was almost one second ahead of his following swimmer, Masayuki
Kishida, who touched the wall for the silver medal, posting a time of 55.87 seconds. They were followed by Kevin Munsch of Ford Aquatics-AZ, who secured the podium finish for the bronze medal, posting a time of 57.54 seconds.
Next was the 200m freestyle, where NAC-SE’s Dakota Hodgson cruised his way to the finishing wall to secure the crown. Hodgson claimed the gold medal of the freestyle event, by posting a time of 1:54.91 minutes. He was almost four seconds ahead of his closest
rival, SDAU-AZ’s Caleb Veazey, who touched the wall for the bronze medal, clocking a time of 1:58.83 minutes. Veazey was 0.02 seconds away from his following swimmer, Luke Pechmann, who finished fourth with a timing of 1:58.85 minutes.
Moments later, Cory Chitwood of Ford Aquatics-AZ conquered the gold medal of the 100m back-stroke. The final of the back-stroke event was crowded by Ford Aquatics-AZ’s swimmers, as the top seven finishes were secured by their athletes. Chitwood’s team-member,
Michael Sheppard, was 1.28 seconds slower than him and won the silver medal, clocking a time of 59.28 seconds. Their team-member, Adam Ritter was 0.67 seconds slower than Sheppard and touched the wall for bronze medal, in a time of 59.95 seconds.
The final event of the session was the 400m IM, where Austen Thompson of Ford Aquatics-AZ won the hearts of arena with his amazing swim of 4:38.92 minutes. The 20-year-old Thompson was almost one second ahead of NAC-SE’s Taylor Charles, who followed him
on the podium for the silver medal, with a timing of 4:39.74 minutes. Sam Rowan of FORDU-AZ followed them on the finishing wall to secure the bronze medal, touching the wall in a time of 4:43.60 minutes.
The championships concluded after the final session, while the arena appreciated the aggressive swims of all participants, who put in all their efforts to secure podium finishes.
