Maclin Davis wins Boys 100m butterfly title: Day three – 3rd World Junior Championships
Maclin Davis of United States captured the title of Boys 100m butterfly final on the third day of the 3rd World Junior Championships, supervised by Federation Internationale De Natation (FINA) on Thursday, August 18, in Lima, Peru.
18-year-old Davis acquired the gold medal of the event, by submitting a fastest time of 53.24 seconds. Despite of his gold claiming effort, the American remained 0.72 seconds slower than the championship record of 52.52 seconds, made by Daniel Bell of New
Zealand in 2008. Maclin was also 3.42 seconds away from beating the world record of 49.82 seconds, set by Michael Phelps of USA in 2009.
Davis was chased by Kenta Hirai of Japan, who remained only 0.16 seconds slower than him and earned the silver medal of the event in a time of 53.40 seconds. He was followed by Arthur Mendes Filho of Brazil, who occupied third position of the event as he
touched the finishing wall to clock a time of 53.96 seconds.
Moments later, Erich Peske of United States emerged as the fourth position holder of the event, as he stayed 0.10 seconds slower than Mendes Filho and clocked a time of 54.06 seconds. Peske edged out Joseph Isa Schooling, with a difference of only 0.01 seconds,
as Schooling posted a time of 54.07 seconds for fifth position.
Yevgen Koptyelov of Ukraine was the sixth finest swimmer of the event, as he remained only 0.10 seconds away and ended his swim in 54.17 seconds. He was trailed by Dodaleu Yahor of Belarus, who remained just 0.39 seconds behind and concluded his swim in
a seventh fastest time of 54.56 seconds. Yahor was traced by Andrey Tambovskiy of Russia, who was 0.09 seconds slower than him and settled as the eighth fastest swimmer, with a timing of 54.65 seconds.
In addition, the session ended with the phenomenal swims of all participants in the 100m event, while the winners were invited on the medal rostrum for their superb swims after the completion of the session.
