Maclin Davis wins Boys 50m butterfly semi-final: Day four – 3rd World Junior Championships
Maclin Davis of United States won the semi-finals of Boys 50m butterfly on the fourth day of the 3rd World Junior Championships, organised by the Federation Internationale De Natation (FINA) on Friday, August 19, in Lima, Peru.
Davis, who earned second fastest spot in the preliminary rounds of the 50m event, geared up his swim in the semi-finals and posted a time of 24.12 seconds for the fastest qualification spot in the final. He was 0.51 seconds slower from improving the championship
mark of 23.61 seconds, set by Daniel Bell of New Zealand in 2008. He was also 1.69 seconds away from the world record of 22.43 seconds, made by Rafael Munoz of Spain in 2009.
The American teenager was trailed by Mihael Vukic of Croatia, who remained 0.08 seconds slower than him and earned second fastest qualification spot with a timing of 24.20 seconds. The third qualification spot was secured by Martino Lucatello of Italy, who
was just 0.49 seconds behind Vukic and completed his swim in a time of 24.69 seconds.
In the meantime, the arena witnessed the gruelling effort of Ukrainian swimmer, Yevgen Koptyelov, who was only 0.05 seconds behind his former finisher and earned fourth finest spot into the final with a timing of 24.74 seconds. Matthias Bellance of France
emerged as the fifth best qualifying swimmer of the event, as he remained 0.06 seconds away from his preceding swimmer and reported a time of 24.80 seconds.
Meanwhile, Yunpeng Liu of China transpired as the sixth qualifying swimmer, as he posted a time of 24.88 seconds. He was chased by Erich Peske of United States, who was 0.04 seconds behind Liu and captured seventh qualification berth, with a timing of 24.92
seconds. Bastian Vollmer of Germany was the last swimmer to make his way to the final, as he clocked a time of 24.94 seconds.
The session ended with the phenomenal swims of all swimmers, while these finalists will swim against each other once again in the final round to reach the podium.
