Madden 09 online play?

Okay I asked this in video games section over a hour ago still no answers- SOOO I figured i'd come on here to ask if anyone knew. How do I play online against a friend of mine can't quite figure out how to do that.

You BOTH need to get Xbox Live Gold Subscriptions. You can get small subscriptions, and long ones. They range from 2 days, to 13 months. Go to gamestop.com or Ebay.com and type in xbox live gold subscription. It is cheaper on ebay, but you can get it quicker on gamestop. You need a wireless connection, or an ethernet cable connected from the back of your xbox, directly to your motem. It will set up after you type in some information like name, credit card number (incase you renew your subscription by microsoft), and stuff like that. You make a Gamertag (like a screen name on xbox), and then you add your friend to your friends list, go on madden at the same time, and send him a game invite.

Private chat your friend and tell them to meet you in one of the lobbies. (East, west, beginner advanced). Then, you can proceed to send them an invite and such

thats weird, i dont know of any other way to invite people to games then through lobbies so you maybe be s.o.l.

I had the same problem, but then just created a league for 2, went with the max 11 games and played 3 last night against a buddy.  I think once things settle down and 6 million users aren't trying to get into the them, the lobbies, will be the easier way to go.
