I tried to start and join an online league on the Xbox 360 version, but it told me that an xbox live membership restriction wont let me join or create a league. whats the problem?

You have to have Xbox live gold subscription in order to do basically anything online. If you have that type of subscription, then it is probably a bug, so you may want to call this number and complain:

1-800-4MY-XBOX

you prob have xbox live silver, but they require you to have a gold card instead
